Looking to add a language skill to your resume? Want to transform your travel experience to Spanish-speaking countries? No matter the motivation, taking Spanish immersion classes in Costa Rica is a great way to challenge yourself while learning a valuable new skill.
What is Spanish Immersion?
Most people learn a new language by taking classes a couple times a week. These classes generally last an hour, and once they’re over the student leaves the classroom, switches gears, and goes about their life as normal. Instead, Spanish immersion classes are designed for the student to “live in” the language, resulting in accelerated learning. Classes are also longer and more frequent than traditional language classes.
By taking Spanish immersion classes in Costa Rica, students study the language in a country where the new language is spoken. Students learn from teachers who are also native speakers and have opportunities to practice their new language skills with other students and with locals.
Benefits of taking Spanish Immersion Classes in Costa Rica
Studies show that immersing yourself in a foreign language can facilitate faster, more meaningful learning. Data also shows that being bilingual helps you to learn a third language faster, and gives you a deeper understanding of your native language.
With 406 million native speakers, Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language in the world, according to Ethnologue.
According to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), studies show that being bilingual improves intelligence, memory skills, and problem solving ability.
Studies point to a correlation between learning a second language and offsetting age-related cognitive losses. There is also evidence that being bilingual may reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Enhance your Resume
Whether you work in healthcare, business or education, knowing Spanish can make you more marketable to employers.
With gorgeous beaches and verdant jungle, Costa Rica is the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature once your day’s lessons are done. If you’re partial to the water, combine your Spanish immersion classes with surfing lessons.
Earn College Credit
Many Spanish immersion classes in Costa Rica offer students the option of receiving college credit. At School of the World, students can receive credit equivalent to Spanish 101, 102, 201 and 202 courses.
Speaking the language enriches your travel experiences. Not only are you able to better read a menu, or interact with a shopkeeper, but knowing the language also lets you interact with locals to get off-the-beaten-path recommendations on places to go and things to see that aren’t found in any guidebook.
