School of the World is the only place (that we have ever heard of anyway!) that you can spend your vacation learning to surf and take amazing photos. By mixing the best elements of a surf camp with a photography workshop we have created a magic combination. Programs are open to students of all skill levels and run year round. These programs include approximately 2 hours per day of Surfing and 2 hours per day of Digital Photography instruction. Surfing and Digital Photography Four Week Program
Why not take a month to learn to see the world from a new perspective and express that through the language of photography, while also getting in shape and living the endless summer dream of surfing every day? Four week photography students have time to cover all of the basics of photography, take a lot of field trips for great landscape, portrait, street, travel, night, and time lapse lessons. You also get time to learn digital darkroom editing and workflow skills using Photoshop and Lightroom. This four week program includes lodging, plus 40 hours of Digital Photography classes and approximately 40 hours of Surf Sessions. The surf sessions include approximately 2 hours a day of surfing (M-F), use of a surfboard, guide/instructor, and transportation to the appropriate break for your skill level. Surfing and Digital Photography Three Week Program
In addition to lots of time to perfect surfing skills, the three week photography course students get more time to learn techniques for achieving certain "looks" or stylized photos- using manual settings, lighting, lens selection, and post-production editing. The three week program includes lodging plus 30 hours of Digital Photography classes and approximately 30 hours of Surf Sessions. Surf course includes approximately 2 hours a day of surfing (M-F), use of a surfboard, guide/instructor, and transportation to the appropriate break for your skill level. Surfing and Digital Photography One Week Program
In this one week course students explore the fundamentals of photography including aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and composition. The one week course is designed to expand each student's photographic vocabulary and get some great Costa Rica vacation photos. Students also spend time each day learning to surf. One week surf and digital photography program includes lodging plus 10 hours of Digital Photography instruction and 10 hours of Surf Sessions.
