Digital Photography

The rich colors and beauty of Costa Rica make a perfect setting for a photography class (for example all of the photos used on this site were taken with digital cameras by our staff and students). Digital cameras have revolutionized photography, allowing for artistic experimentation without the hassles of a chemical darkroom or the wait and expense of film processing. This course is designed to give students a working knowledge of the elements of photography including lighting, composition, apertures, shutter speeds, and much more. This program also provides an explanation of how digital cameras work and how to improve your shots. In addition, students are tutored in basic digital workflow and photo editing using programs such as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Students go on excursions to great photo locations, so whether you are a beginner or a more experienced photographer you will love this exciting program offered at the School of the World.

SUPPLIES

Students are responsible for bringing their supplies with them.
Students should bring:

Personal digital camera
(It is a good idea to bring the manual along as well)
Personal laptop computer


Also Suggested:
It is a good idea to bring an extra memory card, a back-up battery for your camera, and portable hard drive or blank DVDs for backing up your files.


Special note: All fieldtrips are subject to availability. The School of the World staff can arrange additional field trips for students. Possibilities include deep-sea fishing, sailing, kayaking, horseback riding, canopy tour, and sunset boat trips to name a few. Prices for these vary according to availability, number of people going, and the season, but we can definitely help you receive a discount on these fun activities in our area. In addition to helping you set up extra-curricular activities, we can also help you plan your weekend trips to other destinations in Costa Rica.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND SPANISH

Digital Photography can be combined with Spanish to learn how to get the most from your camera while learning the local language. Each class runs approximately two hours per day.

Digital Photography and Spanish Four Week Program

• 19 Hours of Spanish Class
• Approximately 36 Hours of Spanish Lab (optional unless you are taking College Credit)
• Kayak/Snorkel Trip* - Kayak along the coast and snorkel in the warm tropical waters of the Pacific. A variety of marine life can be seen around the reefs including tropical fish, lobster, corals, and much more.
• Waterfall Hike* - Hike to a beautiful waterfall known as "Three Pools" and spend the morning swimming in the refreshing pools.
• Crocodile River Tour - Take a trip on a boat up the Tarcoles River with a guide to see the large number of American crocodiles, lizards, and birds that live in and around the area.
